Record Of 47,000 (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 17. A record crowd paid what may be a record gate for a representative Rugby match when between 47.000 and 48.000 people watched the Auckland-Waikato Ranfurly Shield match at Eden Park on Saturday.

The estimated gate-takings were £5OOO, said the secretary of the Auckland Rugby Union (Mr L. F. Warren). The previous crowd record was the 40,000 who watched a similar game on the same ground in 1952—although on that occasion Waikato was successful. 6-3, with, its challenge. From the six challenges this season the Auckland Rugby Unicn has taken approximately £15.000. One challenge, from North Auckland on September 30, remains.

Last season the Auckland union’s takings from representative matches, which included eight shield matches, were £21,000.
