NATIONAL A.A.
Move Towards Formation (HJS. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 17. The North Island Motor Union will approach the South Island Motor Union seeking the formation of a national organisation representing all 15 automobile associations in New Zealand. The annual conference of the N.I.M.U. at Wairakei on Saturday . passed unanimously a remit put by Mr R. P. Wakelin (Wairarapa) Mr Wakelin said that the remit was intended to establish the principle that a national organisation be formed as soon as possible. Seconding the motion, Mr J. W. Ewen (Auckland) said his association was prepared to play its part in putting forward concrete proposals at the earliest opportunity. "If we do not speak with one voice we are in danger of splitting up and risking the motoring movement in this country,” he said. The president of the South Island Motor Union (Mr G W. Ferens) said he was very appreciative of the gesture of Auckland, which was bigger than all the South Island associations together, had made in supporting the remit. "I hope in a year or two we will be able to see a New Zealand Automobile Association.” he said.
“It seems we are all of the same mind,” said Dr. S J. Thompson, president of the N.I.M.U. “This will be the biggest move in the history of motoring organisations in New Zealand.” For this reason it was necessary to make sure of the ground work. The proposal could not be forced through, he said.
