CANOE TRIP FOR SCOUTS
“Adventure” Down
To Estuary
Senior scouts from Christchurch. Ashburton. Ellesmere, Darfield, and Rakaia will take part in a canoe “adventure” at the week-end
in which 30 canoes have been entered. The canoes, 17 single and 13 twin-seaters. will be inspected today by Mr I. Boyd, secretary of the Canterbury Canoe Club, before they move off from the starting point near the Bridge of Remembrance at 10 a.m.
The first stop will be at the Swanns road bridge. There the canoeists will have lunch at the Avonside scout den. In the afternoon they will paddle across the Estuary to the South Brighton Domain, where they will stop overnight. Tomorrow morning they will leave for the Mount Pleasant Yacht Club and will complete their “adventure” at the Heathcote Bridge at 2 p.m. Points will be given by scouters for seamanship, boat handling, storage of gear and time taken on the journey.
