Battle Of Britain Ball
Balloons and streamers lent a carnival air to the ballroom of the Winter Garden last evening when the Christchurch Brevet Club commemorated the Battle of Britain with its annual ball. A large welcome sign bearing a replica of the Brevet Club’s badge, greeted guests as they entered the foyer. In the lounge were arrangements of red, lilac and white cyclamen, ornamental foliage and blossom. Guests were received by the president of the Brevet Club (Mr L. Murray) and Mrs Murray. Those in the official party included RearAdmiral D. M. Tyree,and, Mrs Tyree. Wing Commander M. T. Milener and Mrs Milener, Sauadron Leader L. A. R. Hill and Mrs Hill, the president of the Canterbury Aero Club (Mr R. Buchanan) and Mrs Buchanan.
Mrs Murray wore a princess line gown of lavender West Cumberland brocade featuring a heartshaped neckline and pleated skirt fullness at the back.
Mrs Tyree wore a gown of black nylon with a fitting bodice cut with a square neckline. The waistline was piped with gold trimming and the full skirt was gather, ed. With it she wore a black net stole scattered with gold coin spots.
Mrs Milner chose a short evening frock of rosecoloured satin cotton, with a fitting bodice and V-shaped neckline. The skirt featured unpressed pleats falling from the waist.
Members of the ball committee were Messrs L Murray (president). K. F. Rollo 'secretary* J. A. Stanley A. Morgan, D. Jones, T. ‘ G. Mackay. N. Bidwell. F. Ferguson. L. Turner, K. Perry and A. F. Jacobson.
