Big Fire In Philippines

Six thousand persons were left homeless today* when fire destroyed some 500 buildings in a port area of Cebu in the central Philippines, the Philippine News Service reported. According to the British United Press, the news agency said warehouses and other commercial buildings were destroyed as well as homes. The report also said that three children were missing. Cebu is the second largest city in the Philippines.

Mr Zentaro Kosaka, the Japanese Foreign Minister, left Tokyo by air today to attend the opening of the United Nations General Assembly on September 19, as leader of the Japanese delegation. He carried with him a resolution Japan will place before the General Assembly urging an immediate ban on nuclear weapons tests.
