Obituary MR W. D. ARMIT

(N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND. Sept. 15. A former fields director of the Lands and Survey Department, Mr William David Armit. has died in Auckland, aged 73. Before his appointment to that position in 1939 Mr Armit was chief surveyor in Taranaki and later Commissioner of Crown Lands, North Auckland. He was educated at Wellington College •nd joined the Lands Department in 1905. He carried out extensive roading subdivision al and pioneering surveys in the Nelson and Otago districts and in the Urewera country. He retired in 1948. Mr Armit is survived by his wife and a daughter.
