60 M.PJI. ROAD LIMIT URGED

“Realistic, Without

More Hazard” (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA. Sept 15. It was the firm opinion of the North Island Motor Union that, bearing in mind the improvement in roads and the standard of modem cars in New Zealand, a speed limit of 60 miles an hour would be realistic without increasing the road hazard, said Dr. S. J. Thompson in his report to the annual conference of the union at Wairakei.

It was gratifying that the New Zealand Road Safety Council had recommended raising the existing speed limit to 55 miles an hour.

The union was convinced the installation of satisfactory types of seat belts would reduce * the injury and death toll on New Zealand roads, the report added.
