AIRPORT AT TAUPO
Plans To Be Completed
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. Planning Taupo airport would go “into full swing” as a result of the announcement by the Air Services Licensing Authority that it would grant S.P.A.N.Z. some form of scheduled licence to include Taupo, the town clerk of Taupo (Mr K. G. Winton) said today. Mr Winton said that the Borough Council would now discuss with S.P.A.N.Z. the terms under which the airport would be built, and complete detailed planning. The company planned to construct a temporary airstrip at Four Mile Bay, near the main south road, and it hoped to complete this project before next winter. Mr Winton said that the engineering survey of the airport site had been completed. Minor technical matters now required Ministry of Works and Civil Aviation Administration approval.
