TV SETS IN HOSPITALS
Elderly Folk ‘•‘Delighted”
Television sets installed recently at Burwood Hospital and Teresa Green Home had been “an absolute delight’’ to the elderly folk in whose quarters they had) been placed, the assistant secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr D. Horne) said yesterday. The set at Burwood, which is in a geriatric ward, was given by the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council as a reward for the success of a membership drive. The Teresa Green Home set, placed in a residents* sittingroom, was provided by the board as one. of two to be installed experimentally to see whether television will give lasting pleasure or prove only of passing interest.'The other set will be installed soon in a medical ward at Princess Margaret Hospital.
“After the third set goes in, we plan to wait for six months or so to see if the interest continues before We commit ourselves to any further installations,” Mid Mr Home, “But so far the sets have proved very popular indeed.”
