New Zealand has eight daily newspapers in the four main metropolitan areas with a total circulation of 847.000. the 1961 New Zealand Yearbook shows, In the smaller cities and provincial towns there are 34 daily newspapers with a total circulation of 256,000. Papers other than dallies increased the aggregate circulation a day to 1.090,000. In addition, there are three national weeklies circulating more‘ than "423.000 copies. New Zealand has 387 copies of daily newspapers a 1000 inhabitants, compared with 573 in the - United Kingdom. Australia 381, Canada 244, United States 347, US.S.R. 107. Sweden 462, Norway 374, Denmark 376, France 244.
