Praise Given At Conference tNJI. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 31. Overseas medical authorities praised New Zealand’s health services at the opening of the Western Pacific regional conference of the World Health Organisation today, Tlie WJI.O. assistant director-general (Dr. P. M. Kaul) said newly-emerging States would enlarge the membership of the organisation which must have resources to meet the extra demand. "The successful achievement of the role of the organisation in stimulating and helping the improvement of the health of the peoples everywhere is dependent on the co*opera • tion, collaboration and contribution of member States,” said Dr. Kaul,

“I am happy to record that New Zealand has played its part ver;,' effectively in promoting the work of W.H.O. "The facilities provided by New Zealand for training persons from less developed countries are valuable and appreciated by the countries assisted and the organisation.”

The retiring chairman of the regional committee (Dr. R. K. C. Lee, of the United States), said in address to the meeting: “New Zealand and its health services have been used as examples for many years by Governments and health workers as to what can be done in the prevention of disease and the promotoion of health with good leadership and an understanding Government and people. “Leadership of health in New Zealand, and particularly that of our host, the Director-General of Health (Dr. H. B. Turbott) is internationally known.”
