LORD MAYOR IN CAPITAL

CaIIOnPJW.

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. Hatless and wearing a black jacket and striped pants, the Lord Mayor of London (Sir Bernard WaleyCohen) paid a call on the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) at Parliament Buildings for a few minutes this morning. He was accompanied only by his sword bearer (Colonel B. J. D. Lumsden), who was in mufti and therefore carried no sword. The Government • will tender a Parliamentary luncheon to Sir Bernard Waley-Cohen and his entourage tomorrow. Also today Sir Bernard Waley-Cohen presented a pair of gold loving cups to Wellington at a civic reception today in the Town Hall. The cups, he said, were a replica of the pair made in the reign of James I. In the Course of his address Sir Bernard WaleyCohen said that although hundreds of young New Zealanders managed to get to Britain each year to have a “look see” very few young people from Britain appeared to be able to find a way to come to New Zealand at an impressionable age There appeared to be fewer avenues open to them. He hoped it would be possible to evolve some scheme of attracting young people from Britain here with scholarships or with terms at universities here. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr F. J. Kitts), the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) welcomed the Lord Mayor.
