NEGOTIATIONS ON E.E.C.

McEwen Hopes To Be Blunt (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CANBERRA, August 24. The Minister for Trade (Mr J. McEwen) today said he hoped to be “blunt but not rude” in negotiations with Britain on her entry into the Common Market. Mr McEwen was replying to a question in the House of Representatives on whether he would use in the negotiations the “gentlemanly, courteous approach that has highlighted his career.” Members laughed, and Mr McEwen, with a wide grin, said: “In these negotiations one need not confuse directness with rudeness,” he said. “I think we can preserve decorum.”
