Inter-Island Table Tennis
A USEFUL preview to chances at next week’s national table tennis championships will be the form shown in the inter-island match which will be played at Lower Hutt on Saturday. Although the North Island will be favoured to win in both men’s and women's matches, upsets could occur in individual contests. The North Island men’s team will feature three of the four 1961 New Zealand representatives in A. R. Tomlinson, Mr Dunn and G. A. Frew and the Australian representative G. J. Jennings. These will be opposed by B. A. Foster, the other New Zealand player, J. Armstrong and W. T, Scott, the two next in line for selection in that team, and R. L. Foster. The North Island women’s team, headed by the brilliant Northland players Misses N. Davis and N. Attwood and Mrs J. Green, will be very hard to beat. The fourth player will be Miss J. Brown (Hutt Valley). The South Island side, a solid one,
including Mrs J. Shadbolt, Miss V. Braumann, Mrs T. May and Mrs A. Williamson, will have to struggle to win even a single match.
