Parking Laws

Sir,—ln your issue of August 4 I read with interest the account of the traffic quiz semi-final. No contestant could answer the question about parking on a one-way street. The Road Code says: “In a one-way street you may park on either side.” What is the correct way to park on the right side of a one-way street? Does one just pull over to the righl and park parallel to the kerb facing in the direction of travel? Is it an offence to park on the right-hand side of a normal street? I have often seen cars so parked, facing approaching traffic.— Yours, etc., KEEP TO THE LEFT. August 8, 1961. [The acting Town Clerk (Mr C. S. Bowie) said: “Regulation 19 (i) of the Traffic Regulations, 1936, states:—‘No person being the driver or in charge of any Vehicle shall stop, stand, or park the vehicle otherwise than parallel with the direction of the roadway and with the left side of the vehicle as close as is practicable to the left side of the road, except in a one-way road, when the vehicle shall face in the same direction as the vehicles proceeding along the road and as close as practicable to either side of the road.’ ”]
