Bus Shelters
Sir, —In the Square are three exposed departure points for buses, Sumner, Papanui, Cashmere, etc. When drivers are changing over, passengers are quite often forced to stand waiting for considerable periods in wintry weather. Is it too much to ask that shelters be provided, such as is done in Wellington and Auckland? These cities are not subject to Christchurch temperatures, but they show consideration for their passengers.—Yours, etc.
NOR’-WEST BILL. August 7, 1961. [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) said: “The question of the provision of bus shelters in. the Square is dependent on the results of the competition being held by the City Council concerning the Square lay-out, and at this stage it would not be politic to make any provision, as this might well be changed in the light of the decision of the council when the recsuite of the competition are made known.”]
