Name Wanted For Official

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. “I invite the newspapers of this country, who criticise members of Parliament so much, to make constructive suggestions for the name of this official,” said the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) in the House of Representatives today when he was discussing the intended legislation to authorise the appointment of the citizens’ appeal authority or ombudsman. During Ministerial replies to members’ questions Mr Hanan said: “A committee is working very hard formulating this bill.” The ombudsman’s duties would be concerned only with administrative decisions.

“He will not be allowed or permitted or encouraged to be a Gestapo or to be a snooper standing over public servants. His duty will be to examine decisions already made,” said Mr Hanan.
