PRESSURE TESTS AT TIKORANGI
Flare At Oil Site Extinguished (N.Z. Pres* Association) N. PLYMOUTH, August 9. The flare burning off excess gas at the Mangahewa No. 1 oil site at Tikorangi was extinguished yesterday afternoon to allow pressure tests to be made. The general manager of Shell, 8.P.. Todd Oil Services, Ltd. (Mr D. S, Watt) said in Wellington that the flame would remain out for “about 30 hours.” Mr Watt said samples of the condensate from the present test arrived at Wellington on Monday. These were being analysed. Results of the tests would not be known until next week. By tomorrow the company hoped to have a reply from headquarters at The Hague. Holland, where a telegram had been sent after the third gas strike at Tikorangi on Sunday. Until a reply was received it would not be known whether the next test would be at Tikorangi or Kapuni. Present indications were that the next test would be made at Kapuni. where a rig structure had been recently prepared. Mr Watt said after pressure tests had been completed the well would be reopened and the flare relit. Tests at the 12,500-foot level would be continued for several days.
