FARMER’S TRICK CONVERTED
Two Bovs Believed Responsible Two boys are believed to have converted a three-ton track from a yard at 661 Harewood road about 245 pm. yesterday. The owner M the vehicle. Mr Ross Barnes, a farmer, of 180 Johns road, caught a glimpse of the truck as it was being d, lY en n <>rth on Johns road The police were notified, and a patrol car from the Papanui station driven bv Constable A. L Leslie blocked the Belfast end of Johns road. Constable Leslie was accompanied by Constable M B Haussmann. Another natrol car in charge of Detective D. N. Stewart went to Johns road bv wav of Harewood road. The truck was found abandoned about quarter of a mile from where it was taken. Two police dogs, Ace and Buck, were taken to the area and followed tracks through a plantation to where bicycles had apparently been left. The truck was not damaged, but the ignition key was taken. Two secondary ■ schoolboy’s were seen loitering in the area earlier in the day.
