POTATO EXPORTS
Mr Williams Replies To Mr Annand The statement made by Mr D. B. Annand, chairman of the Potato Board, in yesterday’s issue of “The Press,” on the attitude of Mr C. T. Williams at the board meeting on August 1, was somewhat misleading, Mr Williams says in a supplied statement. “The position is that Mr Penn had been appointed at the previous meeting selling agent in Australia for the board on condition he reported to the board, for its approval, on various prices and margins,” he says. “Had Mr Penn recognised the board's authority in this matter he would have been entitled to have his information regarded as confidential. It appeared, however, that Mr Penn did not accept the board’s authority, and to have committed myself to secrecy would, in my view, have amounted to abandoning the board’s right and duty to control the situation,” Mr Williams says. “Let Mr Williams have the last word: I have nothing further to say,” said Mr Annand when the above statement was referred to him for comment.
