Metropolitan Favourites
(N.Z. Press Assn.—ComingMi SYDNEY, August 7. Bookmakers made Gemstone and Valerius equal favourites for the A.J.C. £lO,OOO Mertropolilan, to be run on October 2, after both had put up outstanding performances at Randwick today. Gemstone, starting favourite at even money, made up a great deal of ground in the straight to finish second half a head behind the winner High Row in the Accountants' Handicap, one mile. Valerius (13/2). having his first start after a spell, finished third a lengtd behind Gemstone after being handy to the lead all the way. Weights for both the Epsom Handicap, one mile, and the Metropolitan, one mile and five furlongs, will be published on Monday, August 28.
