When all issues were resolved, Britain’s entry into the European Market might not necessarily be to Australia’s detriment, the South Australian Premier (Sir Thomas Playford) said last night. While no-one was competent to know precisely what the ultimate effects would be. the preferential trade agreements which existed between Britain and Australia were well-bargained treaties and not one-sided in operation, he said. One British company that to date had been content to export to Australia, had reacted to the Common Market proposal by opening negotiations to commence manufacture in Australia.
