MATRONS MEET
Discussion On Conference A series of short talks by delegates who attended the recent quadrennial congress of the International Council of Nurses in Melbourne, will be heard at the 11th national matrons' conference held in conjunction with the New Zealand Private Hospitals' Association conference in Christchurch tomorrow. Five delegates will speak They are from Auckland, Hamilton. Palmerston North and Dunedin. Their observations and reports will later be discussed by those attending the conference. A Christchurch surgeon, Mr J. W. Ardagh, will speak on arterial grafts and the conference will conclude with a discussion on several remits. A report from the matrons’ conference will later be presented at the Private Hospitals' Association conference for discussion. Mrs P. J. Bentley, of Wellington, will preside at the matrons’ conference. Ownersupervisor of the Kirkleigh Private Hospital at Karori. Wellington, Mrs Bentley is a vice-president of the association. She took over her present hospital 12 years ago and before that ran a maternity hospital in Pahiatua for five years. Mother of two school-age sons, Francis and Christopher. Mrs Bentley did her general hospital training at Wellington Hospital. Before taking up private hospital nursing she was district nursing in the Wairarapa. She has just retired as vice-president of the Wellington branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, a position she held for two years. The first annual matrons’ conference was held in Christchurch and 24 delegates attended. At this conference it is expected that more than 60 will attend the matrons’ conference and more than 100 will attend the association conference. . ’
