Senior Lead Now Shared
The Canterbury women’s hockey senior grade competition leaders are now University and Harewood. The latter side came to the top after an easy win on Saturday when University only managed to draw in its match. One point behind the leaders is a strong Carlton side which held University to a draw. Points in the competition are: University and Harewood Bj, Carlton 7J, Rawhiti and Aranui 15. Digby’s 4. Hinemoa 3, West Old Girls 2i ! Results of Saturday's matches were:— Aranui 2, West Old Girls ?. Harewood 4, Rawhiti 1. Hinemoa 3, Digby's 1. Carlton 3, University 3. Eight Winns With eight wins to its credtl, Harewood has won more games of the 11 matches plgyed than any other team. With Carlton it has lost two matches, compared with one loss in University's record: and it has drawn one game compared with three games drawn by University and Carlton. Carlton has won six of its games. When Carlton and University met in the first round Carlton won by 4 goals to 1. ; Harewood and Rawhiti fought ■ a drawn game when they met lin the first round in May. but in the latest encounter Rawhiti's noted defensive play was not good enough. The four goals scored by Harewood was the greatest number scored by any team against Rawhiti in an afternoon this year. Hinemoa had its second win in the senior grade since coming up from senior reserve after last season. It beat Digby’s, 3-1, in the first round. Aranui, regarded as the most draw-prone side in the competition, had yet another inconclusive result. When it played West Old Girls both teams scored two goals. For Aranui, it was the sixth drawn game the side had played this winter, and the third one in the last four matches. The last occasion on which these teams met.
