Women's Hockey CANTERBURY TEAMS WIN

Defeat Of Malvern Canterbury senior representative teams played matches against Malvern representative teams at Kirwee on Saturday. The Canterbury A team won 3-1, and the Canterbury B team won 6-3. The ground was in good order, and the weather was pleasant. Canterbury A v. Malvern A After a rather shaky start Canterbury established sufficient dominance and appeared in little danger of defeat. The main weaknesses were a tendency to be bustled off the ball and some lapses in trapping, but otherwise Ute defence was sound and the positional play good. The attacks through the centre and on the left flank were most effective, but the efforts of the vanguard were limited by the failure of the right-wing to anticipate the through pass or to make herself available for the direct pass when the chance presented

For Canterbury B. Makinson was a cool, competent goalkeeper who made many good clearances. and N. Lennie showed good stickwork at leftback in repelling Malvern raids. The wing halves, J. Witte and S. Riches, intercepted well and tackled resolutely, but their passing was most inaccurate. T. Minehan played well at insideright, showing useful stickwork and emerging from many scrimmages with the ball. Her one fault was a tendency to overdribble. At centre-forward, B. Turner was good in the circle, but failed to retreat to link with her defenders, and was inclined to pass to the left too much. H. Turner, at inside-left, was the best forward on the field, showing speed and anticipation and dribbling with great skill. Her passing has Improved ! greatly. For Malvern. M. Colee, at right-back, intercepted, covered .and cleared well, and J. Watson, at left-half, was a hardworking defender in a line which failed to support its forwards. The three inside forwards, J. McKay, A. Wright and M Redmond, combined well in midfield play but did not succeed in penetrating the Canterbury defence, although lack of support from their halves was a handicap. Goals were scored for Canterbury by H. Turner (2) and B. Turner, and F. Moffat scored for Malvern.
