RED CROSS IN S.A.
Identity Disc Proposed JOHANNESBURG. A campaign has been started by the Red Cross to provide as many people as possible in South Africa with identity discs. The discs are being made the form of bracelets, wrist attachments, necklaces and anklets, and will be inscribed with the name, identity number and essential medical information about the wearer. ‘•The emblems have been designed to be worn at all times by adults and children,” said Mr M. Florence, of the Red Cross, who designed them. “They will be invaluable in cases of emergency or accident to give first aid officers and doctors immediate information about the person, what diseases he has had and possible allergies from which he may suffer, as well as his blood group. “This information is essential in cases where people have been ao seriously hurt that they cannot give the necessary information about themselves and treatment is urgent.” From time to time, Mr Floranee said, amended information about the wearer will be inscribed on the discs, if necessary, free of charge. The Red Cross is also asking petrol companies to assist by issuing motorists with stickers far their cars, stating that the driver is wearing such an identity diac. L
