KETCHUP WINS

Good Finish At Rosehill (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 16. An amazing opening at the tap of the straight enabled Ketchup, ridden by G. Moore, to win the Winter Handicap at Rosehill yesterday. Up to that point Ketchup was tightly packed in behind the leaders. He was going smoothly but it seemed improbable he would get a chance to make his challenge. Ketchup is a three-year-old by Khorassan, the sire of Tulloch. Whereas Tulloch was a stayer, Ketchup has struck his true form as a sprinter. Akatarawa and First Launching were in the lead when, in a flash, they moved out from the rails. Ketchup came through in a few strides and from then on the race was in his keeping. Ketchup won the race by three-quarters of a length from Empress Fay with Seal Keeper two lengths back third. Yesterday's win was his sixth in seven starts. The failure was in the Doomben Ten Thousand in Brisbane, in which Ketchup drew an outside barrier position and was forced to race wide all the way. Ketchup shows no sign of tiring in his strenuous campaign. Yesterday he went to the post as well as a horse iust beginning to race at top form. His trainer, T. J. Smith, said that because of Ketchup’s good condition, the horse might run again next Saturday. May Break Record Smith has prospects of breaking his own stakewinning record this season. Two years ago Smith created an Australian record for a trainer by training the winners of £133.000 in the season. Ketchup’s success yesterday brought this year’s tally to £130.000 for Smith. Result:— WINTER HANDICAP. Of £1500; seven furlongs. KETCHUP (Khorassan Perchance) 8-2 G. Moore 1 EMPRESS FAY (Emperor— Fa vast ra) 7-2 H. Cope 2 SEAL KEEPER (High Chancellor—Bronze Tulip) 7-8 C.
