Steeple At Caulfield (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 16 The New Zealand jumper Mozart left Caulfield punters open-mouthed with his brilliant display in yesterday’s Redleap Steeple. Well fancied by his connexictis and backed from 20/1 to 16/1, Mozart led all the way to score easing down by 12 lengths from the 2/1 favourite Calculator. For years New Zealand horses have been coming to Australia and winning the main flat races, but they broke new ground with Mozart. This was his first run ir. Australia, but he skimmed around Caulfield as if he had been doing it all his life. The trainer, J. McDonald, said he had told his friends that Mozart was a “certainty. And the bigger the fences the better he likes it,” said McDonald, The Caulfield trainer. N Creighton, said he had timed Mozart in a trial last week and had never seen a jumper go faster. Mozart left the barrier like a sprinter, quickly opened up a 15-length lead and from then the race was a procession wish Mozart being eased down by his jockey, E. Anderson.
