CONFERENCE IN N.Z.
World Jersey Breeders (N.Z. Press Association) PAUWERSTON N, July 14. Delegates attending the world Jersey Breeders’ conference, at present being held at Cambridge, England, have decided that New Zealand would be the venue for the next world conference in 1964. This information was conveyed by New Zealand’s delegate, Mr G. H. Dawick, of Palmerston North, in a radiotelephone conversation with the Dominion president of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, Mr J. A. Mooreland, of Cambridge, New Zealand. This decision was very gratifying, not only to all Jersey breeders in' New Zealand, but also particularly to Mr Dawick, the managingsecretary of the New Zealand Association, who had taken a prominent part in the original formation of the World Jersey Bureau in England in 1949.
Mr Dawick had represented New Zealand, and presented a paper on the Jersey breed, at the last conference held in South Africa three years ago. Other New Zealand members attending the conference are Mr T. M. Fleming (Rangiora), Mr J. M. Blytb (Christchurch), and Mr C. Bones (Ohaupo). With New Zealand acting as host for the next conference, world attention will be focused on the quality of our Jersey cattle, which comprises over 80 per ’ cent, of the Dominion’s dairy cow population. Although definite plans have not been made, there is every possibility that the main business portion of the next conference will be conducted at Massey College, Palmerston North, said Mr Moreland today.
