FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A ridge of high pressure is moving on to New Zealand from the Tasman but is followed by a trough of low pressure advancing from the west. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Light or moderate variable winds tending northerly; fine weather with rising day temperatures, but cloud increasing later. Outlook: probably south-westerlies, cold and showery. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate variable winds tending north-westerly and freshening about the sounds late in the day; mainly fine with rising day temperatures. Outlook: a period of rain likely. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds, mainly northerlies; fine at first but cloud increasing and some rain developing from the south in Westland later; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: some rain at first but improving from the south.
