Former Town Clerk Gaoled

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 13. The former Town Clerk of Featherston, Matthew Noel Richard, aged 30, married with a young family, was sent to prison for nine months before probation for a year, when he appeared for sentence in the Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of stealing £221 8s lid as a servant of the Featherston Borough Council. Mr J. A. Wicks. S.M., in imposing sentence, said: “It is always very distressing to see a young man ruin his life when he is on the threshold of a career of service. “It seems you were promoted to executive position too young and it went to your head.’’
