IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
S.A. To Attend As Observer (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyrtpui LONDON. July 4 The MC.C. has said that South Africa will attend the Imperial Cricket Conference as an observer only, and will not vote. The conference will meet at Lord’s on July 19, when toe question of South Africa’s re-admission will be toe main item on the agenda The M.C.C. confirmed that South Africa was being represented with toe full consent of all present members of toe conference. New Zealand will tour South Africa later this year and five international matches are scheduled These can only be recognised as official test matches if both sides are members of toe conference. England and Australia, with two votes each, are expected to favour South Africa's readmission Views of the other mem-bers-toe West Indies. New Zealand. India and Pakistan, with one vote each—are not vet known. But if they should all vote against South Africa, deadlock would be reached and presumably the conference chairman would have o use a casting vote The chairmanship Is usually taken by the president of toe M.C.C.. currently Sir Hubert Ashton.
