Jimmie Rodgers To Visit N.Z. Jimmie Rodgers, a leading American pops and ballad singer who is well known in thia country tor his mil-lion-selling record “Honeycomb,” will arrive in Christchurch on July 25 during a brief tour of the Dominion. He will be accompanied by an Australian vocal group, the De! Tones, under the management of the Auckland promoter- Mr H. Miller. Rodgers began his recording career in 1957. After his fi-st success, the popular recordings “Kisses Sweeter than Wine” and “Closer Walk With Thee” soon came on the market. In the United States he popularised the Australian balad “Waltzing Matilda” when he recorded it tor the sound track of the film “On the Beach.” He also sang the title song tn the film “The Long Hot Summer."
