NEWSPAPER AT WESTPORT

Moves To Resume Publication (From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. July 3. Moves are being made by Westport businessmen to resume production of the “Westport News" which closed down on Saturday after 88 years of service to the Buller district. The decision to close came as a result of staffing shortages, after publication had been suspended for a fortnight during the Christmas holidays for the same reason. The closure of the district’s only newspaper—there were three at one time—-came as a shock to most subscribers on Saturday. The Westport Business Association held a special meeting this mornius at which representatives of two outside newspaper concerns attended and avenues of providing a local news service were freely discussed without any definite decisions being made. There are reports that a local company will be formed to take 'over the Westport News but they cannot be confirmed.
