TOWN HALL SITE

Sir W. Holford Replies Sir William Holford, professor of town planning at tihe University of London, has accepted the City Council’s invitation to advise on the site of the town hall, but because of heavy commitments he cannot come to Christchurch until July, 1962. The chairman of the City Council’s town hall committee (Cr. H. P. Smith) said yesterday that this raised the question whether to wait until Sir William Holford was available or whether alternative advice should be sought. Cr. Smith said that the town hall committee would meet within the next 10 days to discuss the matter and make a recommendation to the City Council. “We think that from a long-term view the development of the town hall precinct is just a® important as the choice of the site.” said Cr. Smith. He added that in his reply Sir William Holford said ne had never received an invitation that pleased him more.
