Unusual Count
The former well-known Canterbury boxer, Mickey Drury, must be one of the few referees who has counted a boxer out while the boxer was sitting on his stool In the ring corner.
This unusual incident occurred on Monday night when two light welterweight amateur boxen fought during the preliminary bouts at the Show Grounds. T. Black proved too strong for P. Shepherd and knocked him down in the second round.
Mr Drury, after having • look at Shepherd on the canvas, raised Black's hand in victory—awarding the decision on a technical knock-out. Shepherd's trainer began arguing with Mr Drury that he should have given Shepherd a compulsory eight-count. The trainer, Mr D. Gallagher, got into the ring in his excitement Tempers flared, and Mr Drury loudly counted out Shepherd who was sitting on his stool.
