DROP IN US CAR SALES

Total car production in the United State* at the end of May this year was about a million units below the figures for the same period last year. Retail sales were about 424.00* less than last year. Sale* improved during April and May, bat forecast* of 6J00.M9 to 64M,M* sales of new cars in 1961 have been revised to between 5.M9.9W and 6,000,000 sales. In the first quarter of 1961 sales of General Motors vehicles dropped by 25 per cent., and profits dropped 42 per cent., compared with the figure* for the same period last year. Ford Motor Company sales were down 23 per cent.. and profits dropped 47 per cent, and the Chrysler Corporation reported a 53 per cent decline in sales volume and a loss in revenue of nearly 22 million dollars.
