SUNBEAMS AT LEMANS

A Sunbeam Alpine driven by P. Harper and P. Procter won the Index of Thermal Efficiency Cup—the second most valuable prize—in the 24 hours Grand Prix d Endurance at Le Mans. Between 4 p.m. on June 10. and 4 p.m. on June 11. the Alpine lapped the Sarthe circuit at an average speed of 91 m.p.h. Its victory in the thermal efficiency index means that it returned a higher average speed and a lower fuel consumption, in terms of weight and engine capacity than any other car in the race.
