Licence To New Line (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter— C opurujht) LONDON. June 22 The Cunard Etagle Company has been granted a licence for flights between Britain and the United States, it was announced today. The air branch of the Cunard Steamship Company was the first major company to apply for an air licence from Britain’s new Air Transport Licensing Board. The application was strongly opposed by the British Overseas Airways Corporation. Today's decision marked the first major licensing setback suffered by Britain’s two state air corporations. British Overseas Airways and British European Airways. Until last year the two companies held a virtual monopoly on international air travel from Britain. Then Britain’s new Civil Aviation Act gave independent air lines the same rights as the two state corporations to apply for licences. The licence granted to Cunard Eagle is the first major licence issued under the new act A. 8.0.A.C. spokesman said it would “undermine'’ the corporation’s position in travel.
