DECISION ON E.E.C.
Haste Would Be “Foolish”
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, June 11. The foolishness of those who for months past had clamoured for an immediate decision by the Government on the question of entry into the Common Market was illustrated by the latest news of Commonwealth negotiations on the subject, the “Sunday Times” commented today. “Not even the most rabid, or most cynical, of proEuropeans would commend Britain's coolly throwing over all her Commonwealth trade arrangements, regardless of sentiment treaty obligation, political repercussim or violence to the economies of other countries. "This implies negotiation "arefullv prepared and timed. As to timing, it is doubtful whether even now opinion in the Commonwealth Is ready to consider the problems Involved on their merit* and in resnect of the longterm future, without giving undue weight to traditions’ concents and ancient prejudices "These processes of change in public and Ministerial thought are bound to take time.” the “Sunday Times” added.
