N.Z. Horse Held Ineligible
(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright SYDNEY, June 1
The withdrawal of the New Zealand gelding Shangtu from the Lugarno Maiden Handicap was ordered by the A.J.C. stewards at the Warwick Farm mid-week race meeting yesterday. They ruled he was ineligible, having found that a horse eligible to race as a maiden at a totalisator meeting in New Zealand was not eligible to compete in the same class in Sydney. The chief steward, Mr J Bourke, said Shangtu was eligible for a maiden race at a totalisator meeting in New Zealand, but as Shangtu had won a hack cup valued at more than £lOO he was ineligible to race as a maiden in Australia.
