LONDON, May 29
The hold-up in sailing of the Shaw Savill motor ship. Taranaki, from Lyttelton seven weeks ago because several members of the crew were missing had a sequel in the East Ham Magistrate’s Court when • Anthony Eric Ogden, a deckhand, pleaded guilty to wilfully disobeying lawful command and assaulting Michael Andrew Culley, fourth mate.
Ogden was fined £1 for disobedience. £lO for assault and ordered to pay B<tns costs
The prosecuting officer said notices had been pos'ed aboard the ship informing the crew of sailing time from Lyttelton but three hours later a number of men were still missing. Culley had been sent to help the police in identifying the men, who were found drinking in a nubile house a mile away. When requested to return to the ship they had resisted and a fight had ensued, dur’ng which Ogden struck Culley.
