UNLICENSED HALLS

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 28. After the chairmen of the Wellington Fire Board (Mr W. H. Naokervis) had expressed the view that the board ought to ask the Wellington City Council to take proceedings against the proprietors of unlicensed halls in the city, the board learnt that the Wellington Toran Hall was an unlicensed hall. In a report before the board, the Chief Fire Officer (Mr H. Bruce) said that three public halls inspected in the city required work done to bring them up to the required safety st.andord. Concerning the Town Hall, the board was told that reports had been sent to the Town Clerk suggesting that certain things should be done to the building to bring it up to the required safety standard. The board decided to write to the Town Clerk saying it was felt that the Town Hall should be licensed as a public hall and asking him what action had been taken to implement the suggestions made by the Chief Fire Officer to have the hall brought up to the propel' standard. The council is also to be asked to take some action against the other halls concerned
