Four Possibilities In SI

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 26. Four sites, all in the South Island, have been selected as the most likely places for a large-scale observatory for photographic and photoelectric astronomy by Mr F. M. Bateson, a research associate pf Pennsylvania University. The sites are Black Birch range, Marlborough, Mount John. South Canterbury, and two in Central Otago. These have passed the first stage of testing—from the business point of view of availability of land, road, access. water, power and housing, Mr Bateson said in Auck. land yesterday. The Black Birch range site will be the first to enter the second stage of testing for suitability from an astronomical point of view.
