Values Very Firm For Fine Wools At Napier

NAPIER, May 26. Compared with the first day’s sale the market was quoted as very firm for fine wools and unchanged for good style fleece wools in coarser descriptions at the end of the second day's selling of the Anal Napier wool sale for the season today. Poor average to inferior wools were erratic and inclined in buyer’s favour. Lambs wool was firm with the exception of the poorer types which were erratic and slightly cheaper. Second-shear wool was In buyer’s favour and skirtings also a Httle easier. Today. 22.959 bales were offered to a fully representative bench of buyers. The wool which was drawn from all Hawke’s Bay. Poverty Bay. East Coast and Taupo districts consisted mainly of ewe fleece, lamb' and a large percentage of second shear wool, together with the usual amount of oddments.

As was the ease with the first day’s offering the wool generally was disappointing in colour due principally to the wet seasonal conditions experienced before and during Shearing operations. Yellow discolouration and cottiness was common in much of the fleece wools while skirtings were badly affected With water stain. Bidding was widespread with the Continent providing principal competition. Bradford operated on well-grown wools. America also gave good support to the market and Japan was active on down and down crow types. Prompt date for the sale is June 12.
