PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL
Customs Raid In Lyttelton
Pornographic material and some Japanese transistor radios and battery-operated toys were discovered when Customs Department officers raided the Dutch cargo ship Van Neck in Lyttelton earlier this week.
The Van Neck was raided in Wellington recently, but Customs officers were unsuccessful. Chinese members of the crew threw transistor radio* and parcels into the harbour as officers hammered on their cabin doors.
The pornographic material found in Lyttelton was parcelled in bundles of 12 and found in a messroom, the Collector of Customs (Mr W. G. Lowry) said yesterday. No charges could be laid, a* the material was not found in anyone's possession.
