Employment Survey
Sir, —To better appreciate the result of the recent survey, some indication of the complementary information sought from employers should be made available. Presumably matters such as staff turn-over, personnel officers' interview sheets, action taken to fill vacancies, and number of applicants for those vacancies. u»ere not overlooked. Possibly the best use of the available labour force, which includes active arid well-qualified retired persons in their mid-fifties, js not made at all times. Some employers are satisfied for periodic overtime to be worked in preference to filling their staff allotments. Inefficient organisation and methods can be detrimental to staff recruitment. The irrelevancy of domestic questions, including religious adherence, sometimes posed at interviewing level, and subsequent neglect to suitably inform unsuccessful applicants of the filling of vacancies. suggests that within the area covered by the survey, a pool of labour exists for at least some of the advertised vacancies Yours, etc., ANALYSIS.
