TOW OF DAMAGED COASTER

The pilot launch Wairangi. from Lyttelton, has been engaged to tow the damaged coastal ship Picton to Lyttelton for repairs to rudder and screw. At present the Picton is moored near the breakwater by the boatsheds at Kairaki with only a watchman, and up to Friday the captain, aboard. The crew were paid off early in the week. Conditions for the tow will be favourable, at the earliest, on Monday. The water should then be deep enough over the bar to allow the vessels reasonable room in which to manoeuvre. The local fishing launch will help to-steady and direct the Picton as she is towed over the bar.
