TELEVISION LICENCES
£6 10s As From
July 1
Licences would be needed for television sets in Christchurch as from July 1. and the annual fee would be £6 10s, the Post Office public relations officer (Mr R. Johnston) said yesterday. This amount is the same as in Auckland.
By July 1 the service is expected to include about 18 hours’ viewing a week, increasing to 28 hours a week by October 1. There are no plans to raise the fee beyond £6 10s when the 28-hour service begins. The television licence fee is extra to any radio' licence held. Where a household has both radio and television, licences will be needed for each.
“The licences will be sold at money-order post offices, as with radio licences,” the Christchurch divisional engineer (Mr D. M. McFarlane) said yesterday. "Television licence forms are not yet available in Christchurch, however, and when they come to hand, a further announcement will be made.’’
