WILD WEASEL CAPTURED

Too Savage To Be Handled "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. May 25. Vicky, captured near Kaikoura, is probably the only wild weasel ever seen in captivity in Wellington. Vicky is far too savage to be handled. She belongs to Mr H. J. Ollerenshaw. a Forest Service photographer who found her when he was making a film of the damage done to native birds by weasels in New Zealand. Vicky will make her temporary home in Wellington with Mr L. Hartman, who is delighted to have her. “Now I've got the four mustellene <weasel-like) animals available in New Zealand.” he said. Mr Hartman keeps these animals as a hobby, and in his back garden are cages with two albino ferrets friendly little creatures with keen red eyes. He has two pet polecat ferrets and a stoat as well. “They're beautiful little creatures.” he said.
